Casual Friday: Viva Las Vegas!

had a different Casual Friday post all ready to go, but decided at the last minute that I should keep with the EMC World theme and do something Vegas-themed instead.

So, for today’s Casual Friday, I’m going to put you in the mood for a trip to Las Vegas with my five favorite Vegas movies. I know there are “better” Vegas movies out there than these, but these are my favorite five (in no particular order). Feel free to throw your two cents worth in the comments!

Casino

Rat Race

Scene from Rat RaceThis movie is severely underrated. It’s like the Ocean’s Eleven of modern ensemble comedy. If you’ve never seen it and don’t mind a little slapstick in your humor, check it out. Forgive the sappy ending (honestly, just pretend it never happened) and turn off your brain for a couple hours of awesome.

The Cooler

Scene from The CoolerTaking it a little lower key, The Cooler is a small-budget love story with a bit of a twist. Set in Vegas, it asks the question — what if a Casino employed someone with awful luck to stop people’s hot streaks? And what if that someone’s luck changed?

Swingers

DVD Cover from SwingersIn this movie that launched the careers of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, the main characters take a trip to Vegas in true style. You might think it’s a Hollywood movie (and it is), but there’s plenty of quotable Vegas dialog in here. Always double down on 11, right?

Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

Soderbergh directed this remake of the Rat Pack classic, but the true magic is in Clooney and Pitt. If the dialog in this movie doesn’t make you smile, perhaps Vegas isn’t for you.
